WHAT TO WEAR FOR A JOB INTERVIEW IN FASHION

Seven tips to keep in mind, straight from industry professionals.

One key thing we learned is that unlike, say, the finance sector, various jobs within the fashion industry warrant different types of interview outfits. So we talked to people in different fields -- PR, editorial, and design -- about what they've seen, what worked, what didn't, and more. Read on for what they said and what we determined to be the seven most important guidelines. Oh, and if you're looking for a job, you should obviously check out our careers page.

Wear something you feel comfortable in and be yourself.

"Be yourself" might be the most overused piece of advice of all time, but enough of the people we spoke to insisted upon it that we decided not to spare you. It's natural to want to project some super fashionable idea of yourself for a job interview, but your interviewer will be able to tell.

That being said, you should also reflect the aesthetic of the company you're interviewing with.

If you're interviewing for a designer or specific fashion brand, for instance, you aren't expected to be wearing that designer head to toe, but it doesn't hurt to try and reflect their aesthetic.

Don't overdo it.

The old Coco Chanel quote about taking one thing off before you leave the house applies well in job interview situations. Going too far with your lewk could get you noticed for the wrong reasons.

Be clean and get a manicure.

Perez says that wearing something visibly dirty or wrinkled or having an overall unkempt appearance could give the impression that the interviewee wasn't making an effort and that they weren't detail-oriented. Plus, little things can be distracting.

When in doubt, just wear black.

"If you are at a loss for what to wear to an interview, remember: JWB (Just Wear Black)," advises Way. "The most important thing is for you to be yourself and comfortable in your own skin first, outfit second."

You don't have to wear heels.

In fact, don't unless you know you feel comfortable in them.

Your clothes can definitely make an impression and make you memorable, so taking risks can pay off.

Basically, if you're confident you have great style, go for it. While no one we spoke to said that they've made a hiring decision (positive or negative) based solely on someone's outfit, most of them admitted that clothing does make an impact.

Juicy Couture founders talk fashion passion

EN Fashion - Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash Taylor believe passion is a must to succeed.

The two designers are the brains behind Juicy Couture and started the multimillion dollar company with just $200 in 1997. They sold it in 2003 for $250 million.

Far from becoming complacent with fashion and style, Gela enthuses that drive and an infatuation with what you do is a must for any budding business.

"Looking at it like your job is to solve problems when you walk in the door every day, even if it's a hem or a stitch or a seam leaving a hole in something," Gela revealed to Teen Vogue. "When I looked at it like that, I thought, 'Oh, I can do this.' Ultimately though, it all comes down to having a passion for what you do.
"We were born to make clothes! We could have retired and ridden off into the sunset, but this is what we love."

"We are two freaks obsessed with making clothes," laughed Pamela.

#GIRLBOSS, the most motivational fashion book to read this year

It's not a memoir, nor a business book, but Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso's #GIRLBOSS is a compellingly motivational read

It's hard to summarise Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso's #GIRLBOSS; part-biography and part self-empowerment manual, at the beginning she writes what it clearly isn't: "This book will not teach you how to get rich quick, break into the fashion industry, or start a business. It is neither a feminist manifesto or a memoir."

What the book is filled with is a mix of candid anecdotes, some that Amoruso is less than proud of - such as when she regularly shoplifted, to unapologetic tales of the time a team member purchased eye-wateringly expensive office chairs, which she then tasked someone with selling on Craiglist, the US equivalent of Gumtree.

If you're not familiar with Amoruso, then she can be best described as the accidental founder and CEO of a $100 million-plus fashion e-tailer which employs around 350 staff in its cool Los Angeles head office. Oh, and that she only just turned 30.

#GIRLBOSS isn't full of annoying hashtags as the title might suggest. Far from it - instead, it is Amoruso's tale of how she transitioned from a part-time vintage seller on eBay to becoming the head of one of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. What's endearing about the San Francisco-raised character is how she's been forced to adapt to her new-found 'fame' as, afterall, she admits to starting an eBay business so that she wouldn't have to talk to members of the public.

Rachel Zoe Talks Summer Fashion Trends

Rachel Zoe is used to having a lot on her plate between her career and being a mom to young sons Skyler and Kaius.

One of her latest endeavors? She's partnering with Jockey's Skimmies slipshorts. Pro tip: Be sure to check out their Facebook page for a chance to win weekly prizes.

But between all of her gigs, she still manages to look perfectly polished and put together, always. So in our exclusive sit-down with the stylist, we of course had to ask her which trends she's loving for summer.

But beyond clothes and makeup, Rachel explained it's really about the attitude you exude. "To be honest, it's all about confidence," she said. "When you look better, you feel better and smile more. Trust me, it goes a long way."

Katy Perry’s lip-sync performance: Awards take blame

Katy Perry’s mouth was moving, but the (correct) words were just not coming out as the pop star performed her hit single at the 15th annual NRJ music awards in Cannes on Saturday. The lip movements and the lyrics were not even close to being in sync - Perry’s mouth was a few full seconds away from the playback, creating an incredibly awkward performance.

On Tuesday, after the video of the incident went viral, the NRJ Awards shouldered the blame: “Katy Perry sang live during the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes on Saturday night, but unfortunately a bad soundtrack was accidentally launched, taking over the live performance of Katy at the beginning of the delivery tube of the Roar,” a statement read, translated from French to English by Google Translate. “TF1 and NRJ present their apologies to Katy Perry ... for this technical problem beyond our control.” Previously, Katy Perry’s reps did not respond to TheWrap’s requests for comment.

Kanye West Mocks Pregnant Kim Kardashian

Kanye is set to appear on the season finale of ‘SNL,’ and the rapper is reportedly nervous that the sketch comedy show will make fun of pregnant Kim!

Kim Kardashian, 32, is used to people poking fun at her, but not her boyfriend Kanye West! Kanye has been chosen to be the musical guest on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, which has a history of mocking Kim and the rest of her family. SNL writers are trying to work in a skit that makes fun of Kim for the finale, and Kanye is not happy about, according to RadarOnline.com

The source notes, “That’s not unusual since her famous family has been spoofed before with some very hilarious and spot-on impersonations of a whining Kim. They have to tread lightly because Kanye hasn’t been happy with all the flack Kim’s been getting about her pregnancy weight gain.”

But producers have one idea for a skit that Kanye may actually be on board with: ”They’ve come up with a win-win scenario where Kim actually gets a cameo at the end of the skit. That would probably make everyone in Kanye’s camp — and especially Kim — very happy.”

Anna Wintour's ban on Kim Kardashian

Rumour has it Anna Wintour has permitted Kim Kardashian to attend this year's Met Ball as a guest of her boyfriend Kanye West, who is performing at the event.

It won't come as a surprise that Anna Wintour doesn't suffer fools, especially when they are famous for a homemade blue movie and come from a family in which every female is inexplicably initialled with a double K. No prizes for guessing who that is.

Wintour has reportedly been vocal about her dislike for Kim Kardashian, saying that the reality star would score a Vogue cover "over her dead body", snubbing her at Paris Fashion Week, and supposedly banning her from last year's Met Ball, despite the fact her boyfriend, Kanye West, was attending as a star guest.

Tom Ford 'unhappy' with people's reaction on his latest collection

Tom Ford has admitted that his choice of venue was probably to blame for the mixed reviews his autumn/winter 2013 collection received.

The designer's autumn/winter 2013 show in February saw him return to the traditional catwalk format for the first time since he was creative director of Gucci. Consisting of clashing prints and colours, evening gowns garnished with sequinned, comic book-style blasts and "cross cultural multi ethnic" references, many were surprised by the departure from Ford's usually slick, sexily understated aesthetic.

"I expected a more positive reaction in a stronger way. And what I got was a sort of stunned reaction. I couldn't read [it] when people started to come backstage - what they thought. But that simple fact was proof of not getting the reaction that I thought I was going to get," Ford told WWD , before going on to admit that the reviews were "lukewarm".

So, what did he do wrong? "I think that I chose the venue inappropriately."

Said venue was Lancaster House, a mansion in London's plush St James area. Not content with its extravagant, gilded rooms that Queen Victoria was allegedly "jealous" of, Ford lined the sweeping staircase with 75 devastatingly handsome, perfectly-groomed male models all in matching Ford suits with matching haircuts. He also had dapper waiters serving Champagne, as well as ushers - and liberally spritzed all of them in his Noir fragrance.

Judge Tom Ford's autumn/winter 2013 collectionf or yourself:

Kim Kardashian to Sing on Kanye West's New Album

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian may be about to venture into something very different from her usual day-to-day drama series.

A report in Media Take Out suggests that the 32-year-old expectant mum may be singing on beau Kanye West's upcoming album.

Apparently Kardashian will have a very small part to sing, perhaps as an "intro or an interlude" in the song, reports Hollywood Life.

However, this is not the first time the starlet has displayed her vocal skills. In 2011, she released a track called Jam (Turn It Up), produced by The Dream.

Having risen to fame after the publication of a tex tape featuring her and rapper Ray J, Kardashian has become one of the world's most recognisable reality stars thanks to her role in E!s fly-on-the-wall show Keeping Up With Kardashians.

You won't believe who Louis Vuitton dressed!!

Louis Vuitton's creative director Marc Jacobs has costumed holographic 'Vocaloid' Hatsune Miku, one of Japan's biggest popstars, for her operatic debut.

Marc Jacobs' latest project for Louis Vuitton is rather surprising - he's dressing a hologram, or more precisely Hatsune Miku.

Miku is what's described as a 3D 'Vocaloid', and despite the fact that she's a holographic projection with a computer-generated voice, she's one of Japan's biggest popstars and routinely sells out stadiums.

When the team behind Miku decided to branch out into opera with stage show 'The End', it was Marc Jacobs and his Louis Vuitton team that was called upon to dress her for her genre-change debut. The sickly-sweet hologram is usually kitted out in school uniform, but in true fashion form Jacobs decided to outfit her in four looks from his checkerboard-heavy spring/summer 2013 collection , complete with hair bows, handbags and statement flats.

The show, which debuted in Japan last December but is now going on tour due to popularity, will hit Tokyo in May and Paris in November, reports Global Grind .

ZARA is in Deep Trouble

High street fashion retailer Zara is under investigation over the alleged use of slave labour at factories in Argentina, it has been reported.

Immigrant workers, including children, were discovered by the workers' rights group, La Alameda, producing clothes for the label in "degrading" sweatshop conditions, investigators claimed.

The mostly Bolivian labourers claimed they were made to work more than 13 hours a day and were prevented from leaving the factories without permission.

Garments being sewn at one workshop in Buenos Aires were said to include items from the Zara Man fashion line sold in British stores.

Juan Gomez Centurion, head of the country's health and safety watchdog, which raided three factories allegedly producing Zara clothes last week, said: "We found men and children who lived in places where they worked.

"They were not registered and they were living in terrible conditions. They had no official documents and were held against their will, they were not allowed to leave their workplaces without permission."

What's the Story between Beyonce and her Sister??

Beyoncé was photographed in Cuba yesterday looking as if she'd raided her stylish little sister Solange's wardrobe.

It can't be easy being Beyoncé's sister, especially when you're also a singer. It's no surprise, then, that Solange Knowles very cleverly tapped into her killer sense of style to set herself apart.

When it comes to dressing she's admirably fearless, clashing prints and colours without batting an eyelid, mixing contemporary designers with flea market finds and, most of all, making fashion look really fun. She's won a flurry of accolades for her fashion-forward looks and an allegiance of followers too - J. Crew's Jenna Lyons loves her and she's already scored a campaign for hip label Madewell.

But it appears big sister Beyoncé has cottoned on and decided to take a leaf out of Solange's book, quite literally. Yesterday, the superstar was papped in Cuba with husband Jay-Z, and she's was looking more than a little bit like her sister. From the piled-on-top braids to the tribal prints, statements specs and masculine brogues, her look was shamelessly Solange from head to toe.

The Duchess of Cambridge snaps up a 200 Dhs TopShop Dress

Will we ever tire of knowing what the Duchess of Cambridge purchases when she visits the shops? Apparently not!!

Last week, a Twitter user revealed that she had spotted the Duchess of Cambridge shopping in Topshop's Oxford Street flagship store looking "Truly Beautiful" and sporting a "bouncy ponytail, with her trademark pearl earrings and casual black leggings" as she perused the rails.

But, as the Duchess is currently the incubator for world's most famous foetus (Kimye's comes a close second) and the owner of the world's most-documented wardrobe, obviously that was not detail enough and the sartorial sniffer dogs were sent out to find out exactly what the Kate spent the Royal moolah on.

Rihanna mixes high street with high fashion

Singer launches first fashion collection for River Island at London Fashion Week

London: Pop star Rihanna showed off her first fashion collection on Saturday in London, with a raunchy street-style range displayed to the sound of thumping hip-hop beats.
The Barbadian singer said it was a “dream come true” to design a line of clothes and accessories for the high street chain River Island, a range which had its worldwide first outing amid London Fashion Week and will hit the shops next month.

At the Old Sorting Office in London, the 24-year-old swapped a catwalk for a stage separated into compartments which the models moved between as hip-hop pumped out from the speakers.
The clothes on offer were street-style, with bra tops, dresses slashed to the thighs, tummy-baring tank-tops and thigh-high boots.

Rihanna came out at the end to give the designer’s traditional bow and wore a short black dress with sparking jewellery.

“I’ve wanted to design my own fashion line for a very long time,” she said beforehand. “This has been something I wanted to do ever since I started loving fashion. I got passionate about it and I just felt like every time I saw something on a rack, there was something that I would want to do to it to change it.
