Gucci kicks off a NEW style for this New Year!!

Italian label Gucci has collaborated with Japanese Manga artist Hirohiko Araki for its 2013 windows.

It's out with the tinsel and in with the comics at Gucci as the Milan Fashion Week label starts 2013 with a new collaboration.

The brand's creative director, Frida Giannini, has teamed up with renowned Japanese Manga artist Hirohiko Araki to create a window installation inspired by the label's Cruise 2013 collection.

Entitled "Jolyne, Fly High with Gucci," Araki's Manga (a Japanese comic strip) tells the adventure of Jolyne Cujoh, a student who inherits a keepsake from her mother's Gucci collection. Propelled by the mystery behind her vintage treasure, Cujoh embarks on a journey that transcends time; the images echo the colour palette and aesthetic of Giannini's newest collection.

Installed across some 70-plus Gucci boutiques worldwide from today, Giannini commented: "I am quite sure his window installations will stop people in their tracks in cities around the world as they immerse themselves in the fabulous fantasy world he has created."

Araki revealed how he has "always been fascinated by Italy". He added: "Frida's beautiful Cruise collection with its strong colours and graphic designs set my mind racing the moment she showed it to me. From there the characters and storyline came into being so naturally. It was very stimulating to work together on this project."

Gucci wins trademark case against Guccio Gucci

What's in a name? A lot of legal bother if it happens to be Gucci.

We love it when a family finds a name they like and sticks to it, like George Foreman who named his five sons George (George Jr., George III, George IV, George V and George VI), and Jermaine Jackson who named three of his eight offspring Jermaine, Jaimy, and Jermajesty.

Sadly, however, such family pride doesn't always lead to happy endings.

Yesterday in Florence, a judge ruled against Guccio Gucci and his brother Alessandro Gucci, the great-grandsons of Gucci founder, Guccio Gucci in an intellectual property case brought by the Gucci Group.

WWD report that Guccio and Alessandro's handbag and accessories firm ToBeG Srl has been found guilty of infringement of Gucci's trademarks "illegitimately" using the names "Gucci" and "Guccio Gucci" for its marketing communications and website activities.

The judge ruled that the use of the name 'Guccio Gucci' "determined an unfair association" between ToBeG's products and Gucci's trademarks, and said that its behaviour "constitutes an act of unfair competition to Gucci's detriment because the advertising materials of the defendant caused confusion with Gucci's products and business activities and took unfair advantage of the qualities and reputation of Gucci's products".

Tom Ford to open first UK stand-alone Store

Former Gucci designer Tom Ford will open his first stand-alone British store in London's Knightsbridge.

Tom Ford's first British boutique on London's affluent Sloane Street will take up 8,000 sq ft store and will stock his eponymous label, which is currently available at Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, report The Sunday Times.

Ford made his return to womenswear design in September 2010, following a six-year break in which he focused on his Oscar-nominated directorial debut, A Single Man . Prior to that he helmed Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, both of which he is credited with turning into the must-have brands they are today.

He has eschewed press coverage - particularly of the online variety - at the catwalk shows for his brand, telling WWD in 2010: "I don't get the need for this immediacy. In fact, I think it's bad. The way the system works now, you see the clothes, within an hour or so they're online, the world sees them. They don't get to a store for six months. The next week, young celebrity girls are wearing them on red carpets. They're in every magazine. The customer is bored with those clothes by the time they get to the store. They're overexposed, you're tired of them, they've lost their freshness."

Do you agree with Tom Ford our dear readers??

Blake Lively is twice as nice for Gucci Premiere advert

Actress Blake Lively's new Gucci campaign has been leaked, bringing on a slight case of deja-vu.

Blake Lively for Gucci Premiere

Only 10 days ago, Gucci announced that it had signed up 'Gossip Girl' star Blake Lively to front the campaign for its new couture-inspired scent, Gucci Première. And already, someone has leaked the images, revealing a smoldering Lively in her backless sequin gown clad glory.

Captured by fashion photography duo Mert and Marcus, the black and white ad reeks of Old Hollywood glamour - an aesthetic which was very much key to Gucci.
Named after Gucci's couture line, Gucci Première is a scent for a woman "living her moment, whether it's on the red carpet or at a private dinner", according to the brand's creative director, Frida Giannini.

The new scent is set to launch first in the UK at the end of the month exclusively at Harrods and Selfridges before going on general sale in September.

Last year, the 24-year-old was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel's Mademoiselle handbag campaign, resulting in an advert which also showed a reflection of Lively.
It seems the camera can’t get enough of Blake… and neither can we!!

YSL to change its Name, dropping the 'Yves'

Yves Saint Laurent's new creative director Hedi Slimane will rebrand the iconic fashion house as Saint Laurent Paris.

Yves Saint Laurent will drop the 'Yves' from their name, the brand has confirmed.

Newly-appointed creative director Hedi Slimane is keen to "thrust Saint Laurent into a new era modern", reports WWD , and thinks removing the founder of the brand's first name from the famous moniker is the way forward.

The house will be rebranded Saint Laurent Paris, although the iconic YSL logo will remain the same. The move is not be an entirely new one, the majority of the major fashion houses go by a singular surname - Versace, Gucci, Chanel, Prada.

When appointed, Slimane - the former creative director of Dior Homme - was given "total creative responsibility for the brand image and all its collections" and is said to be focusing on "recapturing the impulses that inspired the founder to launch the Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ready-to-wear line in 1966 - among them youth, freedom and modernity."

Slimane, who is also working on a new store concept for the brand, will show his debut womenswear collection during Paris Fashion Week this September, and the new branding is reportedly set to be unveiled shortly beforehand.

As yet, Yves Saint Laurent have not released an official statement regarding the change, while Pierre Berge, Saint Lauren't lover and business partner of 50 years, is yet to comment.

Despite the change we think it's unlikely that fashion's most famous acronym will ever disappear.

Last season we saw python prints all over the runways next season we seeing zebra and cow prints, seems like animal print will always be on the minds of designers. Love the blazer jackets with chains on them, that will be a big hit!
